Our Family Groups
Jacquie is our family group worker and currently holds 3 groups on site running from 10am till 12pm.
The groups are specifically for families referred to Home-Start Rotherham.
The design and development of each session is primarily based on the principles underpinning a model of Heuristic play and activities are specific to the child's age and developmental stage.
The 'Little Stars'
This group is aimed at babies from 0-12 months. It is held on Wednesday mornings and its main aim is to promote and support early bonding between parent and child. Activities include baby massage (run over a 4-5 week period), sing and sign, treasure basket work.
The 'Dolly Mixtures'
This group is aimed at babies and children from 0-5 years and runs on Monday and Thursday mornings. The main aim of this group is to support parents and children to enjoy play as a bonding and growth experience. Activities include messy play, crafts, creative fun, sing and sign, singing.
All play materials and equipment used within the sessions are produced inexpensively and simply, drawing on everyday objects and materials found in the family home and surrounding environment with a view to encouraging ideas and repetition by parents in the home.
Adventure Bear
Albert - Adventure Ted is a key resource available within both groups but most especially applicable to the older group, providing a fun, playful resource to support parents and children to work on behaviours that may have become sources of family tension and stress.
Albert goes home with families for a few days and they capture his antics on camera. This is designed to empower and support the child and parent whilst making clear linkages between the group and home.

It's given me a routine twice a week and a purpose other than the day to day parenting routine. Otherwise, I'd sit at home and see nobody.
